Allegory of the cave.
When we are very young, our ideas, beliefs and experiences are largely shaped and controlled. In a sense, we are born into a cave made by others. Plato’s Allegory of the Cave suggests that education is a process of enlightenment, which can occur both inside and outside the academic community. Have you ever had a sudden realization- an epiphany-about life, reality, art, that made you see things differently, that helped you to understand the world in an entirely new and coherent way? Discuss and analyze your experience, including the process of your “enlightenment”, the experience itself and your new understanding of the world.
