Contrapasso in Dante’s Inferno

Contrapasso in Dante’s Inferno

Paper details:

Teachers Guidelines: Please write an analytical essay hinging on a major theme, event, or other key factor in your chosen canto. Write for an audience with a broad knowledge of the poem-on-the-whole but who is looking for a more in-depth analysis of your canto. Which theme, event, or whatever else you choose around which to organize your essay is your choice. My Notes: Hello! My chosen Canto for my essay is Canto XII (12). I want my critical essay to emphasize and have an in-depth analysis on the theme of “contrapasso”/”punishment suits the crime” using examples from at least two/three other cantos (1-15). I also want the use of symbolism of the mythological creatures (and how they project the punishment of their shades) in Dante’s Inferno, because that is also a big theme in my Canto. I added pictures of my Canto with some annotations for citations/references. When it talks about the bull, I want to emphasize that how easily Virgil ticks him off (line 16-25) and his beast-like/rage-filled actions directly reflect the people in that circle of hell, the violent against their neighbors. More connections like that to the overall theme of contrapasso in Dante’s Inferno would be awesome!
