Requirements: 3-4 pages, typed in MLA format using in-text citations and a Works Cited entry for the essay you choose. Since you will be writing your own original essays this quarter, it is important to read and analyze other writers’ works. Understanding how writers craft their main assertion, create a sense of organization, develop key ideas with stories, evidence from experts, specific examples, and frame their language with strong clear sentences is key to helping you develop as a writer. In addition, authors often rely on literary devices such as metaphors, similes, and irony, so that you as a reader have a new understanding of the concepts they present. You will be using your own skills and style and perhaps incorporating similar techniques as a writer this quarter to give your readers the same understanding in your essays.
