Select one film OR book from the list below and apply a grief model from your text to a portrayal of grief in the film or book.

  • The Killing Fields
  • Message in a Bottle
  • The Notebook
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Signs
  • What Dreams May Come
  • Steel Magnolias
  • Terms of Endearment
  • Top Gun
  • P.S. I Love You
  • 50/50

Describe the course and duration of grief experienced by the bereaved (1 or 2 individuals) in the film/book you select by using a “Model of Grief” from your text. You will describe the behaviors, expressions, and/or actions resulting from grief of a lost loved one using a model as the structure of your answer. Include a definition or description of each step/stage/part of the model. This is NOT a movie review, but an examination of the grief process as portrayed in the arts instead of a personal experience. You will need to review the pertinent chapter. Below are some grief models you may use:

  • Elizabeth Kubler-Ross’s “Five Stages of Grief”
  • John Bowlby’s Attachment theory
  • Erich Lindman’s Grief-Work model
  • William Worden’s Task of Mourning
  • Therese Rando’s Six R’s

Your paper should contain in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.
