Read Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle 2. Choose one of the following essay questions. Answer that question in the form of an essay that is between 1250 and 1500 words in length. Essays longer or shorter than that risk being penalized. 3. Be sure to back up your analysis with specific references to the book. You can use short quotations from the source to help demonstrate or support your analysis. 4. You may also cite or quote other course readings or lectures to support your analysis. 5. You may do additional research if you choose but that is not necessary for an excellent grade. You should focus on the book itself as a primary source and try to place it in its historical context. 6. Your work will be graded on the quality, originality and sophistication of your analysis but also on writing style, grammar and punctuation. See the grading rubric on Brightspace for more information. 7. Please use the Chicago Manual of Style as your format for referencing. For more information on the Chicago Manual of Style, see http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html 8. For help with writing a history paper, see http://dal.ca.libguides.com/history/writing 9. Any paper suspected of plagiarism will be reported immediately to a FASS Academic Integrity Officer. Your essay must be your own work. No collaboration with other students will be allowed.
