Nature of Cinematic Adaptation: Solaris

Nature of Cinematic Adaptation: Solaris

Paper details:

In a clear and well written essay of 6 full pages minimum, double-spaced, discuss the nature of cinematic adaptation from the perspective of concepts introduced in class through lecture, discussion and readings. In articulating your understanding about the nature of cinematic adaptation, make selective and appropriate supporting references to the two major adaptations of Solaris (you may briefly reference appropriate other movies viewed this semester such as The Shining, Pyscho, and Lolita) Your essay’s focus should remain similar to that of Paper 1. It should articulate an understanding of the nature of the adaptations as adaptations and only reference the source novel when you are pointing out an adaptational departure that changes either the meaning or the intent. I do not want a detailed analysis of the source, other than to reference something significant in either the discourse or the story (I am referring to these in narratological terms) of the source novel that helps you to discuss the adaptations.
