Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Journal Article critique Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing journal Summary Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been found to infect elderly patients that are suffering from schizopheria. According to the research conducted by the scientists, almost all the elderly patients that were suffering from the prevalence of OCD have been at one point in life been affected by the Schizophrenia disease. The results that were obtained from the research indicated that almost sixteen percent (16%) which is eight out of fifty of the elderly patients that suffered do suffer from schizophrenia are also test positive for the DSM-IV infection caused by OCD. However the patients that were infected with the OCD infections still had almost similar symptoms with the patents that were also affected with the schizophrenia. There was no big difference between the patients that suffered from schizophrenia only from those that suffered only OCD. To prove research methods, there was an experiment that was carried out in the Tirat Carmel Mental Health Centre. Fifty elderly patients that had ages that ranged between 63 to 83 years were used in the experiment. The elderly patients that suffered from DSM-IV were all recruited to ensure that the results obtained from the disorder were accurate. The recruitment and the diagnosis of the patients was mostly based on interview for the patients possessing the DSM-IV Axis I Disorder (SCID). Analysis The results from the study were rated by a geropsychiatrist (J.B) who was blind to the clinical information and also was not informed about the treatment. The study that encompassed of the OCD patients and schizophrenia was approved by the institutional Review Board. The information that is written as the outcome of the experiment was received from the patients who gave the factual details concerning their health. The tests that were used in finding out the schizophrenia in the patients encompassed of pearson’s correlation, Bonferroni post hoc test and student’s t-test. In the finding, schizophrenia patients that were infected with and without the OCD did not differ significantly according to the clinical variables. In almost half of the total patients that were infected with schizophrenia-OCD, there was a late onset of the OCD. In the other remaining half of the schizophrenia-OCD patients, there was an early inception OCD persisted into senescence. The results suggested that there were distinct mechanisms in the occurrences. According to the data that was collected from the research that was undertake, it was concluded that OCD is not rare in the patients that are suffering from schizophrenia. Identification of this condition which is prospectively treatable is vital in providing adequate care to the patients. Evaluation The authors of the articles poyurovsky, Bergman and Weizman were successful in fulfilling the purpose of the study which was to find out if patients the elderly patients suffering from schizophrenia would also be infected with Obsessive“compulsive disorder (OCD). To be capable of achieving the perfect results, a research study is undertaken in which the authors vividly give the logical procedures that were used in conducting the research. The work done by the authors was objective in accomplishing its key tasks which was to prove whether patients suffering from schizophrenia would also be infected with OCD. In conducting out the research, there was no biasness observed in the work since the method that was used in selecting the sick patients was open ended. There were no specifications that were needed in the selecting procedure for recruiting the elderly patients. References Poyurovsky, M., Bergman, J., & Weizman, R. (2006).
