Review the Special Topic – Diversity & Inclusion.
Part 1 of your assignment – Review the following article from K. Gurchiek @ SHRM (2016) on 5 generations at work via the following link: https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/hr-topics/behavioral-competencies/global-and-cultural-effectiveness/pages/what-motivates-your-workers-it-depends-on-their-generation.aspx Remember that stereotypes abound in this type of discussion. Go with the assumptions of the author as appropriate, but feel free to challenge her ideas as you respond to the following items: 1) In which generation would the author place you? (Yes, this would be an illegal pre-employment question IF I were considering offering you a job…But, I’m NOT.) 2) Do you identify with your assigned generation or a different one? Explain why. 3) Assuming that the author’s observations are correct about the different generations and how they view the world, how would you go about structuring a compensation and benefits plan that will motivate all employees and make them feel included as part of the Team while meeting their different needs? For this assignment, assume that you are the CHRO at a full-service, 400 bed hospital with a 4-generation workforce. (Ignore physicians, as they are self-employed and also the Traditionalists as they are “on their way out,” so to speak. Ouch! They will be only 1% of the workforce by 2020). Be sure to view compensation as a much broader arena than just pay. Give us insights into your strategy and plan. (Limit this Part to about 400 – 800 words)
