School Debt Analysis

 School Debt Analysis

The Governor is concerned about the increasing level of student school debt and its negative impact on the State economy. She is considering options to address the problem, including increasing student tuition subsidies at 2-year colleges, providing tax deductibility for school loan repayments, and offering some level of loan forgiveness for community service or working for state and local government. You are an analyst working for the Governor’s Chief of Staff and have been tasked with analyzing a sample comprised of recently collected, representative data about student debt from across the jurisdiction. The data elements are listed below, and the Excel file is available as an attachment. Note that the one attached Excel file includes the data for both the School Debt and Obesity option. Use the School debt. Please conduct a research project to examine the following questions which were developed by the Chief of Staff and the Governor’s cabinet members. After completing your research, prepare a report for the Chief of Staff describing your research objectives, methods, and procedures. The report should also include the results of your analysis, including tables/graphs, narrative description of the depicted data, and thorough analysis, explaining likely reasons why the results show what they show. Based on your analysis, assess the three options that the Governor is considering and also include two new, original ideas that Governor could consider. While you can conduct a brief literature if you wish, all analysis must be done using the provided data, since it represents the citizens of this jurisdiction. The dependent variable for your study is school debt. Use the provided data to analyze the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables indicated in the research questions. Use descriptive and inferential statistics including regression analysis for at least one of the questions to address the following: 1. Group the levels of debt into four bins and analyze the major demographic characteristics of respondents in each bin. 2. What is the relationship between school debt and age? Explain. 3. Are males or females more likely to have the highest level of school debt? Explain. 4. What is the relationship between school debt and current income? Explain. 5. Is there a correlation between school debt and undergraduate major? Explain. 6. Analyze and discuss a dimension of the provided data, other than the ones identified above, that you think is interesting and might be of value to the Governor and her team, as they consider potential administration options and action.
